Although they said that was a very tight race and could have gone either way.

As an aside, in this month's Premiere magazine, there was an interesting article about "fixing" the Oscars. It has some interesting ideas: releasing the final vote tallies, leave the techinical awards to tech experts, and open up the foreign film award.

Now that last one sounds interesting. Currently, only one movie from a foreign country can be nominated -- and it's that country that submits the movie. The example that the magazine gives is Belguim: they had three movies that gained international recognition, but could only send one off to the Academy.
