Well, Montrealers tend to agree that a manual transmission is safer for winter driving. With a manual, you don't have to worry about an automatic transmission that's wildly going in-and-out of seek while it's trying to find the appropriate gear for "wheels slipping on ice". On the other hand, my sister (who does know how to drive manual) thinks that she prefers a vehicule that doesn't require all four limbs to operate.
