I was a military brat so I moved every three-four years, and every school I went to, even the Catholic ones, recited the pledge. In High School it was recited over the loud speaker, and everyone in class just had to stand up, look at the flag, and be quiet. We also recited it before every Boy Scout meeting. And "under God" was always a part of the pledge. It wasn't origanaly though. I think "under God" was added somewere during the Cold War to combat the "Goddless Commies" on some psycological level.
