After all, I was here back when RinkWorks was just a humour site, and then the Site Market Game came out and opened the doors to all kinds of games. So I wouldn't be entirely too certain about Java not impacting the site...

I have a better hold on the direction RinkWorks is going than you suggest. RinkWorks was never "just a humor site" -- At-A-Glance Film Reviews and the Apogee FAQ predate everything else. Humor and games were natural to do because they're both things I enjoy; it just took a little longer to come out with the games because they involved more from a technical standpoint. But Java is a way to implement something, not a type of content itself. I can use it to implement something, or I can use something else. Java has the disadvantage of being inaccessible to a still significant portion of the Internet and introduces potential for usage problems, so it's in my best interests not to use it unless there's no other way to do it. And when would that be? Games. Possibly heavy scripts like the Dialectizer. What else?

> On a different note - when you "Javaize" the games, will there be both Java and Non-Java versions? In the case of Enchanted Forest, will the scores go on the same high score list?

Yes to both. At least, for any game I rewrite using a Java engine, the CGI version will remain available. I may not redo every game, and if I do a new game in Java I probably won't also write a CGI version. That's all still up in the air, though.
