Obviously, we've read different sources. There is a great deal of disagreement among physicists, and there is much still unknown.

Not being a physicist myself, I can't refute Balanthalus. I can only reiterate what I've seen most often.

I applied today for an apprenticeship with a high-energy physicist. If I am accepted, maybe I'll ask his opinion, though its not his speciality.

Balanthalus is sort-of right in his last paragraph. Our limited existance prevents us from understanding dimensions beyond our own completely, but mathematically they still behave. Also, I have no problem understanding a curved universe. Maybe that sentence was a typo.
