An Indian, er, Native American, once had a mysterious ailment so he went to his local medicine man. The medicine man did some incantations, gave him a strip of leather and told him to chew off a little bit every day until he got better.

Two weeks later, the sufferer turned up at the medicine man's place again. "How are you?" the medicine man asked.

The poor guy sighed and said, "The thong is ended, but the malady lingers on."
