At this point, we can all enjoy the pleasure of speculation without having to worry about living through the event. So, from the latest "Death of the World" simulations we have: an even toss-up between the Sun burning out in 5 By and expanding into a Red Giant by 8 By, swallowing up the Earth; versus the Andromeda Galaxy mashing its way right through the core of our Milky Way in 5-10 By in a gigantically stupendous stellar collision, only incidentally destroying Earth on the side. Your choice, take your pick! :).
