"Monster Ballads," as they are so lovingly referred to... the Big Hair Bands... and of course, early Madonna and Michael Jackson. Who doesn't love "Thriller?" Or "Material Girl" ... or my favorite, "Like a Prayer." And then there's all that fun stuff like "Karma Chameleon" and "Stray Cat Strut-" Brian Setser before the orchestra.

If we're going to talk about eighties music, here are three bands which should receive a great deal of credit:

1. REM
2. The Pixies
3. Husker Du

Cheez L"Today's 'alternative' bands would be nowhere were it not for the Pixies"iz
