Recently, during a discussion of favorite/great songs, I said that Stardust, by Hoagy Carmichael, was my favorite pop song. I think I said it was the all-time greatest pop song. Then I said I thought Hoagy wrote both words and music. Wrong. In 1927, he wrote the music and Mitchel Parish wrote the lyrics. I discovered the error when I read a list of Most Important Musical Works of the 20th Century, according to an NPR poll. They were listed alphabetically and included Star Dust (two words)and listed Carmichael and Parish as the writers. The list was of "most important" songs and some on the list were great songs, others were songs that launched careers, a breakthrough or represented a mucical era, etc.

Also on the list were, "As Time Goes By," 1931,
"Rock Around the Clock," 1953, and Willie Nelson's "Crazy," 1961. Wish I could provid a link to all 100.
