> Why? There are more than 24 time zones on the planet; not every time zone is an hour removed from the one next to it. There are many that, for various reasons, are +X 1/2 hours or what not.

Yeah, and there are also areas where they've chosen not to conform to the international standard of time zones and work on their own time.
