Just hook the scanner up (in all likelihood you'll plug the scanner cord into your PC's paralell port... if you've got a printer plugged in there already there should be another port on the scanner for it, of course if it's USB things are in theory easier). Next, open up your favorite image editor or whatever software came with the scanner (ooh, if you haven't installed the scanner drivers/software, do it now). Then, once inside your image editor, you'll likely go to File -> Acquire and from there you'll probably need to choose "TWAIN" or "TWAIN32" though it may vary. Then your scanner software should come into play and you'll go ahead and "PreScan" (unless it's a handheld), select the image area you want to scan, choose a reasonable resolution to scan at, and then presto! Now just pick a good image format and you're finished.

I forgot to mention that my scanner is also a printer and a copier and a fax thing. I did scan a picture into it once, but I can't remember how I did it. Every now and then I read the book or start clicking things that mention scan or graphic or pics. Before long I feel like I've been run over by a TWAIN or maybe even a TWAIN32 what ever that is. I think my computer aptitude needs repair and/or replacement. I've had several people explain the new camera. They start out by saying "Oh, it's simple," and that's the last thing I understand. However, I don't ever give up completely. Sometime in a month or so, after all the company is gone, understanding will dawn and I'll figure some of this stuff out at my own speed. (That's somewhere between slow and stop.) At least your explanation is in writing so that I can refer back to it as I blunder through. Thanks for the effort.
