I've been reading about all of the great things everybody got for Christmas, and most of it is stuff I never got because it hadn't been invented yet. I think progress is great. It's also great when people like what they get for Christmas. Many of you pointed out that you got just what you wanted. Well, I'm really happy with my new camera, a few tools, a sixpac of video tapes, new leather gloves and two inches on my waistline, but nobody ever enjoyed Christmas as much as my wife. Not because of what she got, but because of what she gave. She gave Christmas to two little girls who wouldn't have had much. It seems that their mother is recently divorced, out of work, her car is shot and she's two hundred miles from the nearest realative. In addition to that, her child support payments are delayed for maybe up to four months because of some stupid law that requires that the money be funneled through an office in Nashville instead of being paid directly to her by the local court.
So good old WMM (wife) goes on a shopping spree and buys snacks, candy, toys, clothes and even a present for the kids to give their mother. Then she invited them to Christmas dinner.
They didn't make it to dinner. The old clunker car was hit by another car while it was parked in front of their house. While it is being repaired, the other driver's insurance rented her a new Chevy and on Christmas Eve, they loaded everything up and took off for Grandma's house in Alabama. The old car would never have made the trip. Things worked out for those two kids and WMM was one happy Santa.
