When someone says, "It's official," ask who's officiating.

Sometimes it's not clear who is in authority.
I parked my car in a space marked, "Authorized vehicles only."
Sure enough a cop walks up and the following conversation ensued:
Cop: You can't park here.
Me: Why not?
Cop: This space is for authorized vehicles only.
Me: This vehicle is authorized.
Cop: Who authorized it?
Me: I did. It's my vehicle and I authorized it. I have full authority to authorize my own vehicle.
Cop: Nice try. Do you want to move it or shall I authorize a tow truck to move it?
Me: Since it is my vehicle, I have full authority to move it myself.
Cop: And I have the authority to thank you for your cooperation.
