Well, I think that, yes, the Y2K bug is going to cause some problems, but pacemakers won't stop and airplanes won't crash into the ground. At least, not at any higher frequency than they do already.
The people who think the Earth is going to blow up or vaporize or some such at the exact moment Sat 1 Jan A.D. 2000 hits are forgetting one very important thing: time zones. It would have to take an entire day to do that, if they are right, and i can't picture the Earth exploding that slowly.
