A thought from Gandhi

The local paper printed this as a "millennium thought." I'm not really sure why it's more relevant just because of an arbitrary date change than it would be at any other time, but I liked it anyway, so here it is. From the wall of the Gandhi Memorial in New Delhi, "The Seven Sins":
Politics without principle Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Knowledge without character Commerce without morality Science without humanity Worship without sacrifice
Speaking of date changes, the paper also reported that the government is confident of few Y2K problems, because as the first major country which will be hit by January 1, apparently "the eyes of the world will be upon us." For this reason (at least, they didn't give any other reasons), the government has spent more than $100,000 making sure there will be no Y2K problems in New Zealand. I'm sort of hoping that was a typo and they left out three or four zeros by mistake ... anyway, if you never hear from me again, you'll know why. :-)
