Come on Sam, don't be cruel.

DO NOT give the Soothsayer gold ***BEFORE*** you have beaten the evil dragon (with the Blessed Dagger of Wounding). You see, that gold is needed to buy the Potion of Portent from the Shopkeeper (if you haven't found him yet don't worry; it requires the Wings of Achilles to reach the City in the Clouds). Once you've killed the Dragon in the Cave, search it three times to uncover the Sacred Stone of Healing. Take the Stone back to the Boy of Sickness in Llyagrinorl and he'll give you another gold piece (this is the only other gold piece in the game). So you see, if you ditch your original gold piece, you can't get the Potion of Portent which means you'll never be able to find the Dagger of Wounding to kill the Dragon.

If you've already spent your goldpiece, you can try and win one by throwing rocks in the Well of Wishing... but there's only a 1 in 128,000 chance of getting a piece of gold out of it. Have fun!
