I can't let a reader poll pass without it reminding me of something. I really do like peas.
English peas, whipporwill peas, crowder peas, gorbonzos, purple hull peas, snow peas, cow peas, Minnesota peas, black-eyed peas, field peas. I like 'em all but I have to have my English peas cooked American style. I can't stand those mushy peas.

And a true story about peas, sort of.
A math-teacher friend of mine was trying to get across the old geometric principle that the shortest distance between two points was a straight line. She put point A and point B on the board and then off to one side she put point P.
Then she explained that the shortest way to get from A to B was a straight line and added, "You wouldn't go out here to P, would you?"
She lost 'em all right there.
