Apperntly Sony has got it down to two directors for the spot on the up-coming Spider-Man movie

The choices don't leave me thrilled

David Fincher (Fight Club, The
Game, Seven) or Chris Columbus
(Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Alone,
Bicentennial Man).

Either dark and depressing, or silly. The thing is Spidey has done both in his carrier, what is need is a director that can ballance humor and realism.

Spider-Man's motivation is the guilt of letting a burglar go, a burgler who later killed his Uncle, yet one of Spidey's most enduring traits is his sense of humor, he is constanly heckling his villians with pun, one-lines, and witty banter during life and death fights.

Acording to rumors it seems Sony might me leaning towards Fincher, myslef I hated Seven, nasty and graphic for no real reason. I also dislike the Home Alone movies.

I would have prefered to see Speilberg, Kevin Smith, or Bryan Singer do the directing. But I will hold off my judgment until I see the movie.
