The standard bacon here seems to be closest to the first sort you mention above. Whether it goes crunchy or stays soft depends on how long you fry it. I think. I'm not much of a connoisseur really.

I don't know how that would apply to processed meat like bacon, which I tend to think is fairly unlike the original product no matter what country it comes from.

I've only been there once in my life, but I certainly intend to go back some day, because it's my favourite tropical island group. It rules. Especially because when I flew between islands up there, it was on the smallest commercial plane I've ever seen (a DC6 Twin Otter) and about two weeks after I got back home, it crashed into the sea and everybody died. Now that's what I call a well-timed holiday.

Yes, that's a real possibility. Vanuatu was in my mind when I mentioned tropical spiders. I have a good story about my Vanuatu spider experience, but you're obviously a sensitive person and I'll spare you the details. If *I* had been flying that plane and a typical Vanuatu spider had shown up, suicide would have been the only option. Of course, that couldn't be what really happened. A spider like the one that was in my hotel room couldn't have fit through the DOOR on that plane.
