It was, but it worked. However, I picked up the movie magazine after seeing it, and read the interview with Desmond Llewelyn. Apparently this isn't necessarily his last movie: if he's still around in another two years, I guess he'll reprise his role again. (Having an assistant was apparently his idea -- he suggested "a couple of movies ago.") Thinking back on the scene in TWINE, I'm impressed by the writing. It was left so that it wouldn't be the least bit awkward either way.
