Oh sure, it hasn't been all dullness and drudgery, but in the same space many complete novels occupy, Jordan has managed to say only one thing of significance: "Something strange is going on." > > Yay. This better pick up really quickly.
So Mr David J. Parker, it has been several days since the (above) post ... how goes it? : )
may I just say, as I come to the conclusion of Book 4, that Jordan's habitat of describing meals (usually all accompanied by a seemingly ubiquitious 'tangy sauce'), is begniing - as you may have noted by the tone of this post - irritating.
however, the story remains a pleasaing distraction ... though (maybe because i threw myself into these books too fast, without breaks inbetween) TWOT is begniing to drag ... taking on some of the characteristics of a soap opera ...
another thing about the books that is disturbing me is his attitude to love/sex ... none of his characters appear to have even an average libido, or, if there is a character with a high sex drive, they're inevitably female and described in less than flattering terms (i've counted 2 so far, one is basically a demoness, comparable to Lillith of christian/hebrew mythology, and the other a regular woman who is spurned by more 'moral' and chaste female characters ....)
his (jordan) treatment of love/sex/lust is really quite juvenile IMHO ...
Thoughts?
PS Interesting - after hitting the 'preview' message, upon completing this reply to your post, there was a message cautioning me that some of the words contained within the reply were not suitable for posting ... that's fine, the word has been adjusted. but now i'd like to ask - is this topic deemed unsuitable for discussion? ought it not be pursued in future? it is certainly not my intention to offend ...
