Sword of Voltar-Goblin/Castle/Knight

I don't seem to be able to kill the goblin and I can't find the knight to give him the lance. I dipped the lance in the river. The old man is no longer available. I can't get back into the castle through the volcano or the front door.

Object (When did I get this?)
