Hello. I appear to be stuck in Adventure Quest.

I have made into the castle and the tower, along with the fortress to the west, and still no princess. I can't seem to hotwire the tractor, do anything with the dog on the volcano, or do anything useful with the winter coat I found in the castle. Could someone please drop me a hint on my next step?
