Well, so long as he's not fiddling with Batman, I'm all for Tim Burton taking whatever liberties he wants. Based on the trailer, the movie looks pretty cool. And let's face it, the story simply needs to be changed to have an interesting movie... Everyone already knows the basic setup, so twisting it lets you play on people's expectations.

I've heard it that Ichabod disappears, and that in his wake is a smashed pumpkin shell. Maybe everyone doesn't know the basic setup :)

Heck, just messing with a perfectly good book for no reason is annoying. Of course, obviously some things need to be changed in the conversion, but I hate it when perfectly good parts are ruined for no reason. My best example is "Sphere", a book I loved and a movie I detested. The book was very cinematic, and with some editing for length much of it could have been preserved. However, the entire last third was altered needlessly and for the worse. Particularly the ending, which in the book was sort of ambigous, and in the movie was a HORRBIBLY CHEAP SFX shot... sigh.
