I'm sure he was: 'Are You Being Served?' ranks (and I use the word advisedly) alongside Benny Hill as the English-comedy-we-are-most-embarrassed-to-export. 'Fawlty Towers' and 'Absolutely Fabulous', for instance, fall into the other category.
