I believe there is a clue on the wall when you first come into the tower. You may also have to talk to Ashburne to get a hint. (Still on Chapter 2 on my replay, and I didn't write the rhyme down.) Basically, the color of each tile you land on determines how you're going to move off it.
You need to use trial and error to see what each color tile does. When you land on a certain colored tile, try to move one way and note which way you actually move.
Some slightly spoilery hints:
Orange, yellow and red tiles: will consistently move you in a different specific direction than the one you chose. For example, if you go north from an orange block, you'll always end up moving west, so on and so forth.
Blue and green tiles: will move you based on where you came from, so keep a note of which tile you last came from and which direction you went in.
White tiles: actually let you go the way you intend to.
Black tiles: are only useful if you want to start over.
Purple tiles: ...I've never been able to figure the purple tiles out. I know the flickering of the tiles affects their pattern, but how and based on what is beyond me. (I think you can still do this without deciphering the purple tiles.)
Once you've figured out the patterns, look at where the pedestal and platform are on the map and work backwards to the entrance to figure out your path. I think (but I'm not sure) there's only two tiles near the platform that you can actually get to it from, so that will narrow it down.
(Also, that blasted pedestal actually moves to another part of the room the first time you get to it. It's irritating, but it will only do that the first time.)
