You are missing what you need to kill the vampire. What you need is kind of a variation of an old and "basic" weapon. You'll find it near the beginning point of your adventure by going in another "direction". The Soothsayer is also near the start. The gnome won't tell you why he's so sad. But he is pretty thin... Your inventory shows that you have what you need to get what he needs. Don't forget to talk to him afterward!
