Most people will only know the movie, which was semi-awful, and not the book, which was a memoir about him being an Arsenal fan. If you want to sell people on Hornby here in America, High Fidelity is a better choice.
I'm not selling Hornby, just previewing the next movie he's involved with. I referenced the last two movies based on his writing. If one of them is bad, that's an important contextual element for anticipating another movie that will come out of one of his stories. Certainly it's fairer and more accurate than cherry-picking the more popular titles as representing the whole body of film adaptations of his work.
But I didn't think the (American) Fever Pitch movie was so bad, either. It's not a classic, but I liked it.
Regardless, it IS worth calling attention to the fact that Hornby is the *screenwriter* for "An Education" and not the author of the source novel. The only other time he had a screenplay produced was for the 1997 British version of Fever Pitch, and that was for adapting his own work rather than someone else's.
