I'd like to do it all again with a few bucks in my pocket. That's really about all I would change. If I had been able to spend ten bucks a week, I could have had a real blast. A buck in 1950 was a lot more money than it is now.

I taught school for 33 years, have been married for 53 years, have children and grand children, have traveled extensively and I have enjoyed a great life. I guess at my age you tend to look back a lot, but I am also looking forward to the future. I still haven't been to Spain, haven't watched a space ship leave Cape Canaveral, and haven't driven across Texas.

The drive across Texas was just as long as the rest of the drive, and certainly no more interesting than driving lengthwise across Nebraska. It's just that instead of corn, you're looking at mile after mile of dust and tumbleweeds. Don't get me wrong, there are nice spots in Texas, and if the goal is just to say you did it, by all means go ahead, but if you're expecting to see a lot of great, wonderful, marvelous and interesting things, don't hold your breath.

Good point, but it probably doesn't apply to me. I'm a travel freak, so I don't get bored traveling. I have traveled in all 50 states, but I barely saw two of them. I went from Oklahoma into Texas just a few miles, and then went back to Oklahoma. 30 years later, I went from New Mexico to El Paso and back. There must be more to Texas than that.

Montana is a worse case. I was in Yellowstone National Park and drove about a mile across the Montana line and then headed back to Old Faithful.

New Mexico and Arizona didn't bore me and I spent a week wandering around those two beautiful states.

But your advise is probably good for those who are not obsessed with travel.
