According to information revealed on the Reader's Poll, a large number of Rinkies have no vehicle. That good AND bad. It reduces our dependence on foreign (and domestic) oil. It also helps to preserve our environment. It supports public transportation, reduces congestion in our cities, saves money, avoids stressful situations, and who knows what else.
But on the filp side, it leaves non-vehicle people with fewer choices when they have a little spare time.
One of life's little pleasures is exploring. You can do it on a bicycle, which will take you to places that are too far to walk. Some folks have never seen parts of their own neighborhood. A bicycle will fix that.
To explore further, a moped, a motor scooter, or even a motorcycle, is handy. But for real freedom to explore, nothing beats a small car. I prefer one that gets great gas mileage, so I don't worry about the cost.
I would recommend a car to people who can afford it, have finished school, have a little free time, and have discretionary funds. Other wise, two feet, a bicycle and/or public transportation may be best. But humans are like cats -- we like to explore, we are curious, and we wonder what is beyond our home territory. Exploration is one of the important things in life. Howard
