It's in the book, "Anguished English". If the contents of the book seem familiar, it's because a lot of the "Things People Said" are in the book. And yes, it's related to "malapropism", which is the same situation, only the word means the opposite(reveiling/revealing), or something completely different, and which does NOT fit. Like: The Pyramids are a range of mountains between France and Spain. It's a good book. It even has a section on signs, like the infamous "EAT HERE -- GET GAS" sign, or "Ears pierced while you wait".
