Well, I remember the part you've quoted, but I honestly don't recall any ending to it. None of the ones I've seen from others ring any bells, either.
FWIW, the mnemonic I used when learning which months had how many days was to count knuckles. Using both hands, but not including thumbs, start with January on the first knuckle, then call February the space between the 1st and 2nd knuckle, March the 2nd knuckle, April between 2 & 3 and so on. This will put July and August as the last and first knuckles of the 1st and 2nd hand, respectively. Obviously, then, the knuckles correspond to 31 days, and the space between them to less.
Of course, this method requires knowing month order first, and I learned a song for that, which I often (in my early years) sang to myself as I counted knuckles. I still remember the song, but it doesn't exactly translate to text very well since it's pretty much just a list of the months.
