In AGL it is too easy to just see what you have to do, just look at the choice. In text-adventure game it isn't completely obviously at first, which means you have to figure it out by yourself. Text-adventure game is better.
Have you completed Escape from St. Mary's? Did you really think it was "too easy to just see what you have to do"?
If the answer to both questions is "yes!", you're either lying through your teeth or it wouldn't really matter what form the game takes since you are an adventure games god.
