I have actually seen a reasonable implementation of the Z-machine in JavaScript which may work (albeit slowly) on a number of phones. This would allow a large number of games to be played without too much fuss from the IF-Archive.

It's called Muttonate, although I don't know how actively it is being maintained these days.
