So did I, but I knew I wasn't going to agree with Rifty when he said he would "tolerate" Crusade, which is my favorite Indy film.
No, it didn't feel just like the other films. It felt like time had passed, and I think it should have. I thought the weight given to the Red Scare was perfect, and enjoyed nods given to what Indy had been up to in the interim between movies.
Yes, the plot was implausible, but no more implausible than Temple of Doom. I kind of hate that they used aliens as the supernatural force, but, hey, they were running out of widely knowsn Biblical mystical items. The final scene with the UFO felt a lot like the scene with the Nazis and the Ark to me.
I was afraid I was going to hate Shia LeBouf, or however his name is spelled, for stealing Indy's thunder. On the contrary, I thought he and Harrison Ford had great chemistry together. And I absolutely loved the ending scene. When the hat landed at his feet, I thought, "Great, he's going to pick it up and crown himself the Jones Heir." Indy's, "I'm not done yet, kid," action was AWESOME.
If anything, I felt like it was a bit short -- the plot was a bit simple and straightforward, and I didn't think there was enough of a resolution. And there were a few moments that you just had to accept, but again, no different from the other movies.
On par with Temple for me. I'd watch it again, but I far prefer Raiders and Crusade.
I hope they don't try to make Shia into the new Indy a few years down the road.
