I got a GPS gadget for Christmas. Programing it is a guessing game, but I'm learning how it thinks. It has a nice lady's voice that never gets upset. If I miss a turn, she calmly asks me if I want to recalculate.
This thing is pretty handy. I have learned shortcuts on routes that I have used for years. I never have to stop and read the map, or wonder if I need to turn at the next corner. I even know what the name of a street is before I get to it.
A digital speedometer is included and a countdown tells you how much longer a trip will take.
Other features that I have not tried to use include longitude and latitude, and even elevation.
I was surprised that I did not find that little TV-like screen distracting. I mainly just listen to it. I tend to leave it on even if I know exactly where I am going.
It seems like nobody expresses longitude in degrees, minutes, and seconds anymore. Now it's degrees and a long decimal fraction. Computer age stuff, I suppose. Howard
