Is the content on your monitor screen being "squished" to fit inside the two black bands, or are the black bands actually obscuring some of the stuff on your screen?

If it's "squished," then you probably just need to adjust your monitor display. Unfortunately, I can't walk you through it since every monitor's controls for doing so are different, but there should be a set of physical buttons somewhere on your monitor that will allow you to adjust width, height, and position of the content being displayed.

Another possibility is that the screen resolution settings for your display have been changed and need to be changed back. If you're running Windows, you'd go to your desktop screen (the one that displays all your icons on top of whatever wallpaper image you have set) and right-click on it to open a drop-down menu. Select the option labeled "Properties" to open the Display Properties dialog. There will be a series of tabs across the top of this dialog; click on the one called "Settings." You'll have a section under there called "Screen Resolution" with a clickable slider. You can experiment with different resolutions in there and see if it goes back to what you're used to. If you have a standard sized monitor, some common resolutions to try would be 800x600 or 1024x768. If you have a widescreen display, try some of the other ones. If your screen resolution is set for a type of monitor other than the one you have, that might be what is causing your problem.
