Wordpad, I think, automatically saves documents in some MS Word format, and you have to fight with it to get regular text format. Notepad, I believe, does plain text only, much like DOS Edit.

And anyway, I don't know why I'm talking about it, because everyone knows there is only one text editor, and that's vi. My motto is, if you can't do it in vi, it doesn't need to be done.
