Try it, you'll like it.
Trains are very effecient. You can put 100 people on a train and the cost per person, per mile will be lower than just about anything. Suppose you want to move them 2000 miles. You can put them on an airplane or a couple of buses or 25 cars, or a small ship, and it will cost much more than if you put them on a train. I think it boils down the rolling friction when you compare trains and buses or cars. A steel wheel on a steer rail rolls easier. Airplanes are faster, but they use lots of fuel. Ships are rather slow, but plowing through 2000 miles of water takes a lot of fuel. 25 cars might be the least effecient thing of all. Trains can cover distance faster than a car or bus, but far slower than the airplane.

Only a ship is more comfortable than the train. Cars, buses and airplanes don't provide much space to move around, and trains don't have a "fasten seat belt" light that comes on just as you start for the bathroom.
