I would suggest you don't give any important items to that man, since (as he admits himself) he's the VI... :-D

Who do you think the pin belongs to? Maybe she wants it back? ;-)

But, i think you haven't explored much. As the hint page says, you should backtrace all your steps and try out the many possible actions.
