I just got back from California where I drove highway one from San Juan Capistrano to Long Beach, That is the longest stretch of coastline that I have ever seen that was lined with parking meters. If you want to stop and view the ocean, you better have plenty of quarters. If you want to go into a state park on the beach, it costs $10. That's a little steep if you plan to spend less than an hour. But there are plenty of bicycle paths in that area, so if you go, take your bike. They even have a beach for dogs. Presumably for dogs with quarters.
