Fantasy Quest 2 - how do I move the log?!

I asked the indian to follow me but he wouldn't go past the bridge with his broken arm. But when I healed him he wouldn't follow me any more! Am I on the right track or do I need to get someone else to help me?!

My inventory is:

20 Onions
Small Silver Coin
Float Ring
Huge Ladder

2 Tree Branches
Silver Key
Sap Tap
Pliers

Sack
Nail
Bucket of Sea Water
Iron Support
