Need FQ1 help

I've been stuck for quite a while now. I've gotten the scroll and helped the man, I've gotten past the cat in the garden, I've helped the gnome, and I've opened the drawbridge to the garden castle (so the magic stone is gone). BUT... I haven't gotten past the first room in the tower without getting pushed out by the bookcase. I'm not really sure what to do from here.
