I actually found the hammer in the stables and now, everytime I go into the stables, the boy notices that I have the hammer and takes it away from me. I have to repeat the whole process to get it back again. So, do you mean I should go back to the stables? Or do you mean I need to go back into that shack of a house (which I have done and could not find anything more, even in the basement) and look around again.

And I have not been able to find a spot where I get the option to use the red gemstone, but I will look again.
