You'll need to get the bucket first before you can get the pliers.
If you've played Fantasy Quest 1 before this one, you'll remember how you could trade valuable items for much less expensive (but needed) ones in a certain place. You'll need to help a long-haired creature to get the item you need to trade. Keep on looking around for a use for the ladder...and do a little furniture rearranging while you're at it.
