The game also tells you that the NORTH PATH goes EAST. You should make an arrow that goes North and make the arrow continue East. Some areas in the garden are large and some are small. He is in the forest West of the sphinx. You need to talk to him a second time. He will give you something. You have almost everything you need to enter the castle in the garden. Can you find your way to the pixies in the southern part of the forest. Keep going west until you come to the gnome. Check your inventory again and see if you have the Magic stone. ok - got into castle - gave up dagger - now have coat and float ring.
