You need more coins, as well as a quest. See if you can get some action at the tavern - it seems counterproductive, but it'll lead you to some employment.
If the drawbridge is fixed (and it ought to be by now), investigate the building and its inhabitants south of town. That'll score you another coin as well as a new mystery to ask the tavern owner about.
