Well, I think your word "frenetic" sounds pretty good. Actually the race was pretty normal until about the last 50 laps. After that, it was a mess.
As a loyal Mark Martin fan, I have to wonder why NASCAR hasn't been fined $100,000 and docked 100 points for not displaying the caution flag when that enormous wreck threatened every car on the race track but the first two. Jeff Burton, who finished third, did so, only because he was able to dodge the wreck.
NASCAR's own rules state that in case of an incident that endangers drivers, the caution lights will come on and the field will be frozen at that point. Mark Martin won that race.
In an earlier time, the rule was that in case of an accident and a caution, drivers would race back to the start/finish line. But that rule was changed when it became obvious that it was too dangerous. NASCAR needs to be more consistant in following their own rules. There is no rule that would have allowed them to delay that caution. Howard
