You can't get across the bog without something from the store. However, you need to have something to trade. Go back to the tower and read the book on the top of the tower again. Soothsayer told you "read everything twice". What you need is in the tower just before the garden. READ THE BOOK A SECOND TIME. You will get what you need!!!
