The games need to have a reading level they can actually read AND they should cover some curricular areas. > > For example, the game could be historical and based on ancient pyramids or medieval times (solutions to puzzles would involve learning about hieroglyphics or smelting metals - that kind of thing). As well, it could also cover science and math facts (convert a fraction to unlock a door, bounce light off various objects to activate a button). Magic and fantasy can still be part of the game but the solutions would need to be something that kids in this age group would need to know how to do.
Well, I'm building a site about mythology (still in very early days at the moment), and was planning to have a game or three on there.
To expand it to include such an educational game wouldn't be a major undertaking, since the adventure game(s) I had planned were of that very nature, logical while slightly devious.
The original plan I had was that some evil supervillain had kidnapped the heroes/gods from the different mythologies, e.g. Greek, Roman, Egyptian etc. and you had to solve a number of themed puzzles to rescue them.
The site in question will become mythipedia.com, but the game could live either at mythipedia.com/game or game.mythipedia.com, whichever is more appealing.
The site does load but there is no content on there while I'm still building it.
Does that sound like a plan? If so, please let me know by reply (or email me: sleeping [at sign] myperch.org) since it's something I'm going to be doing anyway, so I might as well make it useful.
